  • FAQ’s/MORE INFO:

Where and when will Spring Clean happen?

The best answer is “All over the County, from March through May!”

This year KBCB is focusing on roadside litter collection throughout the county as our part of helping Burleson County stay beautiful and win the BVCCC. On the RSVP/Sign-up form, KBCB has divided Highway 21 and Highway 36 into cleanup segments of various lengths. You are encouraged to select a segment that matches the distance you/your group can reasonably handle cleaning, and a location that you personally really want to see spic and span!

If you have another place/road segment you’d rather focus on, or you plan to do a cleanup on a different day, that’s great, too! No cleanup is too small to count. The RSVP/Sign-up form allows you to enter any location and indicate the date your event will occur.

If you already completed a cleanup between 3/1/25 and 5/31/25, please email the Waivers for each participant (and event photos, if you’d like!) to rmurray@burlesoncounty.org and designate one person to enter the event results here to count toward the BVCCC.

What will happen at the three planned events?

If there are enough volunteers, we expect various cleanups to occur at the same time on the planned event days, along the sections of roadway selected by each group. Cleanup leaders will be responsible for organizing and conducting their segment’s cleanup. A KBCB representative will be available by phone for support as needed.

A KBCB representative will lead a cleanup along one section of roadway on each of the planned days. Individuals who wish to participate in that group should simply indicate that as they complete the Sign-Up form and send their Waiver to rmurray@burlesoncounty.org. The KBCB cleanup leader for that day’s event will reach out with more details.

What if someone else picks the same segment of roadway that I want to clean?

No worries! KBCB will reach out to you, and you will have the option to join forces, select a different segment, or clean just one side of the roadway and have the other group clean the other side.

What will I need to take part in a cleanup?

    In Advance of the Event

Just sign and submit a Waiver KBCB Waiver, Release, Consent Form_2025 Spring Clean and complete the RSVP/Sign-up form to participate. You are welcome to be a cleanup team of one, lead your own group’s cleanup, or request to be included in another group doing a cleanup.

    The Day of the Cleanup

Stay safe first! Since this is Texas and temps are warming up (i.e. crawly critters are active), we recommend you wear full-length pants, boots/closed-toe shoes that can get dirty (they probably will!), gloves, and a hat for the event. Bring plenty of cold water and maybe a snack. Consider sunscreen and bug repellant, as needed. Be alert to potential dangers as you collect litter.

    After the Cleanup

Return any supplies you borrowed and make sure to sign out with your group leader.

Tell your friends and family how much fun you had, and make plans to participate in our next event (see the 2025 Calendar)!

Attend our upcoming KBCB Board Meeting June 3rd to see how you can continue to be involved in helping to Keep Burleson County Beautiful!

What else will I need (in addition to the items above) if I plan to LEAD a cleanup?

    In Advance of the Event

    1)      Verify that each participant who will be attending has provided you a signed Waiver KBCB Waiver, Release, Consent Form_2025 Spring Clean and that copies of these are emailed to rmurray@burlesoncounty.org or delivered to Karen Bolt on the third floor of the Courthouse. (Participants in a Somerville cleanup and providing waivers to Kathy Pollock do not need to submit them again.)

    2)      Gather sufficient “3G” supplies prior to your big day: gloves, grabbers, and garbage bags! Hand sanitizer is also very useful. Limited supplies are available in advance for loan at the Burleson County Courthouse. Please contact rmurray@burlesoncounty.org to arrange a pickup. We also strongly recommend you have at least a simple first aid kit assembled with antiseptic, ointment, and bandages, as well as spare bottles of cold water.

    3)      Plan for how you will dispose of the litter and recyclables your group will collect. One-time Burleson County Collection Station Vouchers are available upon request, which include access to a cardboard collection trailer and recycling bin for #2 plastics & aluminum cans. If you will need county or city assistance with collecting the bags, please make arrangements in advance by contacting Mr. Jody Tillery at (979) 567-2360 or jtillery@burlesoncounty.org or, in Somerville, Kathy Pollock at (979) 596-1122 or codecos@somervilletx.gov.

    The Day of the Cleanup

    1)      Have everyone sign in and check to ensure you have a waiver for each person in attendance, and request that they sign out when they are leaving.

    2)      Keep Participant Safety First!
    - Before getting started, review the safety flyer with participants to help prevent injury, illness, or other issues.
    - If you have a large enough group, appoint a “Safety Sergeant” who will keep an eye on participants for potential safety/well-being concerns. They should be prepared to respond to minor incidents with the water and first aid kit (for self care) and notify you if someone needs further assistance.

    3)      Discuss how you plan to handle recyclables, if these will be separated from other trash collected.

    4)      Establish expectations for the start and end locations and any breaks planned. Appoint starting positions so that it will not be necessary to cross the road in order to clean both sides, or make plans for how/when group members are to safely cross.

    5)      Pass out supplies and communicate what participants should do with filled bags as they go. Make sure bags are securely fastened closed when filled. Clarify what supplies need to be returned before a participant leaves, and re-emphasize that they need to sign out.

    6)      Once your cleanup is complete, use a smart phone to submit your event results here. Alternatively, this form can be printed and filled in by hand. (A printed version is provided with loaned supplies.) We recommend you complete the report on site before you leave.

    7)  Share Photos: Email to rmurray@burlesoncounty.org or post on social media and tag #BVCleanup.

    After the Cleanup

    1)      Return any supplies your group borrowed.

    2)      Tell your friends and family how much fun you had, and make plans to participate in our next event (see the 2025 Calendar)

Attend our upcoming KBCB Board Meeting June 3rd to see how you can continue to be involved in helping to Keep Burleson County Beautiful!

Adopt a road Burleson County SignThe Texas Adopt-a-Highway program is the premier litter prevention campaign of the Texas Department of Transportation.  Following Texas’ lead in Adopt-a-Highway program, Burleson County participates with our very own Adopt-a-Road program.

Adopting a stretch of road in Burleson County is simple:

  • You agree to take charge of a stretch of road for a minimum of two years; and
  • Once approved, you agree to clean your portion of the roadway at least four times per year.

The Adopt-a-Road program will post signs with your group’s name along your adopted section of road, and will provide volunteers with safety vests, litterbags and the appropriate training.  If your group decides to participate, contact the county judge’s office at 979-567-2333 or your precinct commissioner.
